Scarlet MwanaOKondwela is a Zambian born and bred singer, songwriter, poet, blogger and performing artist. She was born in Lusaka on July 6th 1987 and is the firstborn of seven sisters.
Her earliest memories of music are the jazz pieces her father used to collect and play in her home. Her father plays guitar and her mother sings and as such she grew up with a rich musical background.
Her professional music career began two years after she graduated from university with a first degree in Linguistics with a minor in Literature. She first took part in a reality talent search that began her journey with the mic.
After her uncle opened the label So Good Entertainment she spent the most part of 2010 writing and recording a variety of songs many of which made it onto her debut album, Unforgettably Yours which was released in 2012.
Scarlet is a Youth Ambassador under the United States of America’s embassy in Zambia and also a member of the Lusaka hub of the Global Shapers initiative under the World Economic Forum. She is a brand ambassador for the Kayula Childhood Cancer Foundation and aspires to become a youth mentor.
She has performed on the same stage as Kenny Lattimore, Zahara, Micasa and recently played at the first ever Lusaka Stanbic Misty Jazz Festival that was graced by Hugh Masekela and Oliver Mtukudzi. She has become a fixture in the Zambian music industry and is nowbworking on her sophomore album to be released in 2015. She describes her music as, “…an eclectic mix of jazz, soul, afro beat and funk sitting on catchy melodies and carried by strong vocals; a yummy mixture that we like to call ‘afro funk’ music.” She performs with a live band of upto 8 pieces at a time.
