Mr. Samuel April Ramufhi was born on the 28 April 1940 at Mapani and later moved to Waterpoort.
They were born being six in the family. He moved from Waterpoort to Magoni to 5 Pack to Tshituni
to Mbokota and finally he finds himself staying at Muraleni Village.
Ramufhi lives at Muraleni village in the Sinthumule area.
Mr. Ramufhi has six children, Khavhatonwi; Thomas; Luvhengo; Tshimbilani; Musiiwa and Nkhangweni.
Mr. Ramufhi normally walks the streets of Makhado town, strumming his guitar
He started his music in the early age at around the late 50’s.
In the mid 1960’s he recorded
his first single (Bombompani)
through Radio Venda.
April Samuel Ramufhi (72) is one of
many artists who, many years ago,
recorded one or two tracks with the old
Radio Venda in Polokwane for airplay.
The problem with the whole process
was that an artist was merely given a
single copy of the single or two tracks
to play for family and friends. They
couldnt earn any money from all this
excercise. Vho-April Samuel Ramufhi
is a happy man after releasing his first
album at the age of 64. It took a
legendary Tshivenda musician 55 years before he could finally release a full-length album of his own, to which
he could claim copyright. He recorded about 35 songs through the decades at Radio Venda. His contemporaries
were Solomon Mposa and Albert Mundalamo. The positive side of things is that, even today, the now Phala Phala
FM still plays the golden songs which we created many years ago. He went to Johannesburg in the late 60’s to look
for the job but music takes its toll where he found himself sharing performance stages with the likes of Mahlathini;
Spokes Mashiane; Mpharanyana, etc. He travelled throughout South Africa and even Botswana.
