Mfundo Ntobongwana, aka G.O. is one of South Africa’s most talented and promising performing artists. He performs both as a solo artist and with his band NativeRefugee where he artfully fuses poetry, hip-hop and soul music.
His poetry has been published in Tuck Magazine (Australia), Firstpost (India) and South African publications; Badilisha Poetry, I Am magazine and IMBO online magazine. G.O. made his international debut at the 2012 Brave New Voices (BNV) festival; the largest spoken word event in the world created by Youth Speaks, an American based non-profit youth organization promoting intellectual and artistic self-development.
G.O. categorizes his music as ‘conscious’ – “it tells the stories and challenges faced by the voiceless. Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, Miriam Makeba, Steve Biko, Saul Williams and Sunny Patterson inspire him. He recognises the need for being a change maker and empowering communities. He believes in giving back to his community and volunteers for various community projects such as writing workshops for aspiring authors in Stellenbosch – in partnership with inZync poetry. G.O. is also a volunteer facilitator for Axium Education as a mathematics and science mentor for communities in the rural Eastern Cape.
